The aide is responsible for renewing his or her certification every 2 years. New Jersey’s Homemaker-Health Aides are certified by the Board of Nursing. Certification is dependent on completion of a training program and satisfactory performance on a competency evaluation; the individual must also clear a criminal background check. A Home Health Aide assists with healthcare in a patient’s home, day service program or group home. They may visit the patient each day in a part-time or full-time position, or they might live with the patient. Home Health Aides help with a variety of tasks, including primary healthcare duties, changing patients and preparing and feeding them meals.

In order to receive your home health aide certificate in New Jersey you need to follow their specific education requirements. Often, our clients have diagnoses that require support for the rest of their lives.
Those who fail both exams need to re-enroll in the training program. The certification is issued by the Board of Nursing after completing the appropriate training program. A certified homemaker-home health aide may not work privately. You may be employed by a home health care agency under the supervision of a registered professional nurse while waiting to take the next scheduled administration of the competency examination. They provide a range of personal care and homemaking services that help patients stay comfortable and healthy at home. The role includes various tasks that involve physically touching and moving clients; examples are personal hygiene and positioning.

There has been some interest in expanding the home health aide role. In New Jersey, this is not a duty to be completed by the aide. Certification through endorsement is possible if the candidate has some work experience in the state they are already certified. Once you complete the course, you’re expected to pass an exam. Not all the courses are equally organized, and some might be completed in as little as 8 weeks while others might last even 12 weeks.
The Certified Home Health Aide 5-week program will prepare students to provide health care services and personal care to patients at their homes. The CNA then has to sit for the state exam and get registered on the Nurse Aide Registry as a CNA. At that point the CNA can be employed in skilled nursing facilities such as hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities. Applicants can retake the test as long as you register for the next scheduled exam. Current nursing students who have completed the fundamentals of nursing may take the competency examination without first completing an approved training program. A registered professional nurse will review your standard of care you’ve giving to your patients and will ensure that you’re complying with the provisions written in the New Jersey Administrative Code. The agency or school will retain a list which deems you fit to be a certified Homemaker-Home Health Aide. You can then be put to work conditionally while your background check clears and, eventually, you’ll receive your certificate. Home health aides who are currently certified in other states may be eligible for endorsement if they meet active practice requirements. New Jersey Home Health Initiatives
Home health aide training in New Jersey is in accordance with Part 484 of Title 42 of the Code of Federal Regulations and Title 13 of the New Jersey Administrative Code. In New Jersey a HHA is referred to as a “certified homemaker-home health aide”. A “home health aide in New Jersey” is referred to as a “certified homemaker-home health aide”, or CHHA.

New Jersey does not require nurse aides to be certified to work in an acute care hospital. However, if a hospital has a licensed long term care unit or a licensed sub-acute unit, certified nurse aides must staff those units.
