It is probably 36" X 45" and is a flannel rag style quilt. It has pastel and baby print flannel fabrics on the ragged side, and darker, winter fabrics on the back side. I do not have a photo of this quilt. Marcia, this quilt was entered in the Arizona State Fair, 2006.

I have been quilting my name with the machine. It blends with the quilting, but I know it is there. A pattern-maker at our guild show had a good solution after one of her samples "disappeared" from her booth at a sewing show/seminar. She put a couple of extra, short hanging sleeves on her larger quilts, ran a wire cable through the sleeve, and used a padlock to secure the quilts to her wire display stands.

I talk about that on my blog also. I also have my quilt provenances on the blog. We need to keep reminding people. I'm another Terri and saw your link on Show and Tell Tuesday.

Bernice felt that this quilt needed to go home and that she wanted my help in finding out what happened that it ended up in a second hand store. I made a color copy of the label. Silly me, I didn't take a picture of the quilt. It was a square lap size quilt approximately 50" x 50".

We have an "outreach" program which allows us to drop off out quilts, and a volunteer collects and delivers them to the fair, also picking them up after the fair. "Charming Circles" made by Kimberly Einmo, and featured in her book Jelly Roll quilts and More! Thiscame up missing after the Scrap and Sew Open House in Lutz, Florida. I think this may have been mentioned once or twice but not lately - good news and bad tonight - one or two found and several missing....Quilters!!! I always put who its for and that I made it but never thought of the town. Label your quilts with as much identifying information as possible.

I hope your quilt comes home soon and thanks for reminding us about the good work Maria's done for quilt recovery. I can't remember this quilt after that point, although I looked in most of the usual places. It is quite possible that I put it "someplace I will be sure to remember but will keep the cats off it until I can get back to it." Hopefully, I will remember that place soon. But, if I can't find it in my major sewing room cleansing, then at least I can always show it on Maria Elkin's "Lost Quilt Come Home" website.

Ever since then, a volunteer has tried to find out who it belongs to. This quilt is truly a “Guild” quilt as it was designed by a guild member, blocks were made by guild members, a bee put all the blocks together. The hand appliqued leaves and cardinals were done by Kim Zebrowski and the custom quilting was done by Cathy Kirk. What a wonderful story with a happy ending and a great reason to sign your quilts! In Washington, IL tornado zone, they are finding quilts that aren't labeled and having trouble finding who they belong to. Labels should give names, towns, etc. that would help clue people where to look for owners.

For some quilts, it may also be important to get a certified appraisal and insurance. Both antique and contemporary quilts can become quite valuable, even into the thousands of dollars. The best way to know for sure is to consult with a trained professional.

When you attach your label try to get the stitching super secure. If you can – place it on the back before it is machine quilted. Then it will be tacked down by a lot of stitches and not just the outside border.
